Syfy and The Asylum today announced that the original Sharknado survivors will return for what they claim to be “the most epic shark attack yet.” Ian Ziering and Tara Reid, both of whom starred in the previous Sharknado and Sharknado 2: The Second One, are officially set to reprise their roles as Fin and April, respectively. Anthony C. Ferrante, helmer of the first two films, will once again direct, based on an original screenplay by Thunder Levin, who also scripted the previous franchise entries.
Premiering on Syfy in July, Sharknado 3‘s plot will begin with mass destruction in the nation’s capital, Washington, D.C., before following the carnage down the Eastern Seaboard.
When it aired last July 30, Sharknado 2: The Second One became Syfy’s most-watched Original Movie ever with 3.9 million total viewers.
Reid previously starred in Joel and Ethan Coen’s The Big Lebowski and appeared as part of Paul and Chris Weitz’ ensemble comedy American Pie. Her recent credits include the direct-to-DVD film The Hungover Games. Ziering, meanwhile, is best known for his role on “Beverly Hills, 90210” and recently starred opposite Noah Wyle, Jesse Williams, Ashley Hinshaw and John Heard in writer/director Wayne Holloway’s true drag racing story, Snake and Mongoose.
