A newly leaked set video has given Tangled fans another reason to be excited. The clip appears to confirm that one of the animated film’s most beloved characters is returning. The behind-the-scenes clips also hint that Disney is relying heavily on practical effects.
A new live-action Tangled set video reveals that Maximus will return in Disney’s remake
A viral thread on X has shared fresh footage from the Tangled set, showing what appears to be Rapunzel’s kingdom, castle outlines, and several horses used during filming. Most notably, the clips seem to confirm that Maximus will return in the live-action adaptation. The fan-favorite horse is seen both as a real horse and as a practical puppet operated by a crew member.
The clip quickly caught fans’ attention online. Many praised Disney’s use of practical filmmaking techniques, with one fan writing, “I’m so excited and can’t wait to see it,” while another added, “Yes! Maximus is a real horse.” Others welcomed the combination of puppetry and live animals, saying, “I expected maybe real horse mixed with CGI but puppets and real horse — THIS IS PERFECT.” Another reaction read, “Practical effects over CGI… that’s always gonna make something better.”
The remake has continued expanding its cast as production moves forward. Diego Luna has joined the film in an undisclosed role. He joins previously announced stars Teagan Croft as Rapunzel, Milo Manheim as Flynn Rider, and Kathryn Hahn as Mother Gothel. Michael Gracey is directing from a script written by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson and Michael Montemayor, with Kristin Burr producing.
When Tangled hit theaters in 2010, it gave the classic Rapunzel story a fresh Disney twist and quickly became a fan favorite. Directed by Nathan Greno and Byron Howard, the animated adventure pulled in over $590 million worldwide and even earned an Oscar nomination for the song I See the Light. It still holds up today, too, with an impressive 89% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes and a solid 7.7/10 rating on IMDb.
