Two beloved animated films featuring Jonah Hill’s voice are scheduled to arrive on Amazon Prime Video soon. Based on a popular book series, both titles received critical acclaim and had impressive box-office runs.

How To Train Your Dragon 1 and 2 will begin streaming on Amazon Prime Video from Wednesday, July 1, 2026.
The movies are based on a children’s book series of the same name, written by Cressida Cowell. Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois directed the original film, with DeBlois returning to helm the sequel.
The original film, How To Train Your Dragon, takes place on the fictional island of Berk, where Vikings and dragons have long been enemies. The story centers on Hiccup, a young boy who struggles to live up to his father, Stoick, and the tribe’s expectations.
During a dragon’s attack on their island, Hiccup injures a rare dragon species called the Night Fury. Upon discovering the injured creature, Hicupps can’t bring himself to kill it. However, the two slowly develop an unlikely friendship that challenges everything Hiccup has been taught about dragons.
Released on March 26, 2010, How To Train Your Dragon received a near-perfect critical score. On Rotten Tomatoes, it boasts an impressive 99% rating from critics, while the users gave it 91%. Made on a $165 million budget, it grossed $494.8 million globally.
Following its success, How to Train Your Dragon 2 was released on June 13, 2014. It takes place five years later, when Hiccup and Toothless (the Night Fury) discover a hidden dragon world. They face a ruthless dragon hunter called Drago Bludvist, who wants to control all the dragons for sinister reasons.
On Rotten Tomatoes, the sequel holds a 92% critic’s score and a 90% user score. Commercially, it earned $621.5 million against a $145 million budget. The two movies feature the voices of Jonah Hill, Jay Baruchel, America Ferrera, Gerard Butler, and Craig Ferguson, among others.
The franchise also had a third installment, How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, which wrapped up Hiccup and Toothless’ story.
