Alongside Steven Spielberg’s Disclosure Day, one of the best action movies is also releasing this week. Following its premiere at TIFF last year, the movie has earned a perfect score on a review aggregator site.
The Furious also hits theaters this week
The highly anticipated Hong Kong action movie, The Furious, will open in theaters worldwide on Friday, June 12, 2026. The trailer, released earlier this year, showcases a gritty, hard-hitting martial-arts action experience.
Kenji Tanigaki directs the movie with a screenplay from Mak Tin-shu, Lei Zhilong, Shum Kwan-sin, and Frank Hui. It stars Xie Miao, Joe Taslim, Yang Enyou, Brian Le, Joey Iwanaga, Sahajak Boonthanakit, and Manatsanun Phanlerdwongsakul.
The Furious follows Wang Wei, a mute tradesman, whose life is shattered when a human trafficking gang abducts his young daughter, Rainy. When he approaches the authorities, they refuse to help him. Determined to save his daughter, Wang embarks on a relentless, violent journey, facing the criminals head-on.
The American independent company XYZ Films co-produced the movie alongside the Hong Kong studio Edko Films and the Chinese studio Zhejiang Hengdian Films. The total budget is reportedly around $20 million, per Variety.
The Furious premiered at the 50th Toronto International Film Festival on September 6, 2025. It was later screened at various film festivals the same year. Subsequently, Lionsgate Films joined to handle the movie’s international release outside of Hong Kong, Macau, and mainland China.
Earlier reviews suggest that it is “one of the best action films of the decade.” On Rotten Tomatoes, it boasts a 100% approval rating from 28 reviews. Meanwhile, on IMDb, it holds a score of 7.1/10. Nearly every review has high praise for the movie, comparing it to the highly popular The Raid films, an Indonesian martial arts action franchise.
The tickets for The Furious are now on sale.
