Columbia Pictures has pre-emptively picked up a high-concept action-adventure from writers Damian Shannon and Mark Swift for Sam Raimi (“Spider-Man” films) and Josh Donen to produce through their Buckaroo Entertainment, says The Hollywood Reporter.
The project, whose title is being kept under lock and key, is described as an all-ages fantasy movie with franchise potential that the studio is hoping to fast track. It centers on a cynical guy from New York who is forced to go to a land untouched by modern civilization to save a village and a princess from fiendish fairy tale creatures.
Buckaroo is prepping Armored, which Nimrod Antal is directing for Screen Gems and Sony.
Shannon and Swift wrote Freddy vs. Jason for New Line and are finishing up the comic book adaptation Power & Glory, which is being produced by Benderspink for New Line.
