Ryan Gosling Doesn’t Think The Nice Guys 2 Will Ever Happen

Ryan Gosling has some disappointing news for any fans hoping for a sequel to the 2016 neo-noir buddy comedy movie The Nice Guys.

Speaking to ComicBook for his upcoming movie The Fall Guy, Gosling was asked about any hope of a potential sequel film. According to the star, though, he doesn’t think one will ever happen, jokingly blaming the Angry Birds movie as a result.

“So much of a sequel, I think, is decided by the opening weekend of a movie, and we opened up against Angry Birds,” Gosling said. “So Angry Birds just, just destroyed us. Angry Birds got a sequel.”

The Nice Guys has become a cult classic of sorts

Originally released in 2016, The Nice Guys starred Gosling and Russell Crowe, and was directed by Shane Black. The film followed the story of a private eye (Gosling) and enforcer for hire (Crowe), who teamed up to investigate a case.

The film received positive reviews upon release, but wasn’t a big hit at the box office. The film grossed just $62.8 million at the worldwide box office against a budget of $50 million. Despite its poor performance, the film has seen a continued rise in fans in the years since landing on streaming services.

Talk of a potential sequel had been discussed for some time, with Black saying in 2022 that there were plans for a television show at one point, but it never got off the ground.
