Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga

Furiosa Features 15-Minute Long Action Sequence That Took 78 Days to Shoot

The Mad Max franchise is filled with tons of action-packed moments, and that will continue in the upcoming Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, which features a 15-minute-long sequence.

Speaking to Total Film, Furiosa star Anya Taylor-Joy revealed that there is a 15-minute sequence in the upcoming prequel movie that took the crew more than 75 days to complete. The scene was called the “Stairway to Nowhere” during production, and Taylor-Joy calls it crucially important to Furiosa’s character.

“George and I would have these big conversations about why this particular set-piece was so long,” said Taylor-Joy. “It’s because you see an accumulation of skills over the course of a battle, and that’s very important for understanding how resourceful Furiosa is, but also her grit. It’s the longest sequence any of us have ever shot. On the day we finished, everybody got a ‘Stairway To Nowhere’ wine!”

In addition to Taylor-Joy, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga also stars Christopher Hemsworth, Tom Burke, Alyla Browne, Quaden Bayles, Daniel Webber, and Lachy Hulme. Additionally, Mad Max: Fury Road stars Nathan Jones and Angus Sampson reprise their roles as Rictus Erectus and The Organic Mechanic, respectively.

What is Furiosa about?

“As the world fell, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus. Sweeping through the Wasteland, they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home.”

A prequel to 2015 Mad Max: Fury Road, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga stars Anya Taylor-Joy as Imperator Furiosa alongside Chris Hemsworth.

The movie is directed by George Miller, who made the original Mad Max trilogy — 1979’s Mad Max, 1981’s Mad Max 2, and 1985’s Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome — before then making 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road. Miller also co-wrote the script for Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga with Nico Lathouris. He additionally produces the movie with Doug Mitchell.
