Paul Thomas Anderson’s New Movie With Leonardo DiCaprio Sets IMAX Release Date

Paul Thomas Anderson’s new movie will be released in IMAX in August 2025.

Warner Bros. has announced that Anderson’s new, still untitled movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio will be released on August 8, 2025, in IMAX.

What do we know about Paul Thomas Anderson’s new movie?

Along with DiCaprio, the movie stars Sean Penn, Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, Wood Harris, Alana Haim, and Chase Infiniti.

Anderson also wrote the script for the movie and serves as a producer alongside Sara Murphy and Adam Somner.

Plot details are being kept under wraps at this time, though Deadline previously reported, “We have learned that it is a contemporary setting and it is the most commercial one that PTA has attempted, with a commensurate budget.” Operating under the working title “BC Project,” the movie began filming near the end of January 2024.

Anderson made his feature film directorial debut in 1996 with Hard Eight. He then went on to direct 1997’s Boogie Nights, 1999’s Magnolia, 2002’s Punch-Drunk Love, 2007’s There Will Be Blood, 2012’s The Master, 2014’s Inherent Vice, 2017’s Phantom Thread, and, most recently, 2021’s Licorice Pizza.

Licorice Pizza, which also starred Haim and Penn, earned Anderson nominations for Best Director and Best Original Screenplay at the 94th annual Academy Awards. The movie was also nominated for Best Picture.

Anderon’s new movie marks the first time that he’s collaborated with DiCaprio, who is coming off of Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon, on a feature film; although, Anderson previously wanted DiCaprio to play the lead role in Boogie Nights. DiCaprio ultimately turned it down because he had signed on to star in James Cameron’s Titanic at the time, with the role then instead going to Mark Wahlberg.

Anderson’s new movie releases on August 8, 2025, from Warner Bros.
