Edge of Tomorrow 2 Emily Blunt

Emily Blunt Talks Edge of Tomorrow 2: ‘Feels Like It Could Be Good’

Emily Blunt has given an update about a potential Edge of Tomorrow sequel.

Speaking with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Blunt said that making Edge of Tomorrow 2 was “more real of a conversation” than a potential sequel to 2006’s The Devil Wears Prada.

“I think when we were first talking about the sequel it was right before I was about to do Mary Poppins [Returns], so it was quite a while ago,” Blunt said. “I think if we’re going to do one, we’d have to reimagine what the sequel would look like.”

“It feels like it could be good,” she added.

Speaking about her experience filming the 2014 movie, Blunt said, “It was exciting to go through it. It was not for the faint of heart. I think we all loved making it so much. It was such a kinetic, exciting experience working with Doug Liman, who is so off his rocker in the best way and such a brilliant filmmaker. And Tom [Cruise], in that role, where there’s nothing heroic about that part and, yet, actually he becomes so heroic because of his vulnerability in it. We loved it. We were shells of our former selves by the end of it, but it was awesome.”

What’s the current status of Edge of Tomorrow 2?

Liman initially planned to make a sequel to Edge of Tomorrow shortly after the first film was released; however, the project was delayed a number of times for various reasons.

In January 2024, Cruise partnered with Warner Bros. for a deal that will see him develop, produce, and lead both original and franchise films for the movie studio. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. chiefs Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy are hoping that Edge of Tomorrow 2 will be one of the projects Cruise works on; however, there’s been no official confirmation that the sequel is moving forward at this time.

Edge of Tomorrow is currently streaming on DIRECTV.
