SNL 1975 Movie Casts Its Dan Aykroyd, Chevy Chase & More

According to Deadline, Dylan O’Brien (Love and Monsters), Lamorne Morris (New Girl), Cory Michael Smith (Gotham) and Matt Wood (Difficult People) have been tapped to play major roles in Sony Pictures’ upcoming SNL 1975 movie.

In the origin film, O’Brien, Morris, Smith and Wood are set to portray Saturday Night Live Season 1 cast members Dan Aykroyd (Ghostbusters franchise), Garrett Morris (The Jamie Foxx Show), Chevy Chase (National Lampoon’s Vacation) and John Belushi (Animal House), respectively. At the moment, the production start date and release date for the project have not yet been revealed.

“The film tells the true story of what happened that night behind the scenes in the moments leading up to the first SNL broadcast, retelling chaos and magic of a revolution that almost wasn’t, counting down the minutes in real time to the infamous words, ‘Live From New York, it’s Saturday Night,'” reads the synopsis.

Who’s involved in SNL 1975?

SNL 1975 will be directed by Ghostbusters: Afterlife’s Jason Reitman from a screenplay he co-wrote with Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire director Gil Kenan. The film also stars previously announced cast members Gabriel LaBelle as Lorne Michaels, Rachel Sennott as Rosie Shuster, Cooper Hoffman as Dick Ebersol, Ella Hunt as Gilda Radner, Kim Matula as Jane Curtin, and Emily Fairn as Laraine Newman. It is being produced by Reitman, Kenan, Jason Blumenfeld, Erica Mills and Peter Rice.

The first episode of Saturday Night Live was broadcast on October 11, 1975, when a group of young comedians and writers including Dan Aykroyd, Chevy Chase, John Belushi, Gilda Radner, George Coe, Jane Curtin, Garrett, Morries, Larraine Newman, and Michael O’Donoghue changed television forever. Reitman and Kenan are conducting a series of interviews with all living cast, writers, and crew who were present during the first night.
