What is Argylle about?

“In the film, Elly Conway is a reclusive author of a series of best-selling espionage novels, whose idea of bliss is a night at home with her computer and her cat, Alfie,” the synopsis reads. “But when the plots of Elly’s fictional books—which center on secret agent Argylle and his mission to unravel a global spy syndicate—begin to mirror the covert actions of a real-life spy organization, quiet evenings at home become a thing of the past. Accompanied by Aiden (Rockwell), a cat-allergic spy, Elly (carrying Alfie in her backpack) races across the world to stay one step ahead of the killers as the line between Elly’s fictional world and her real one begins to blur.”

Argylle’s screenplay comes from Jason Fuchs, who also produces the movie with Vaughn, Adam Bohling, and David Reid. Zygi Kamasa, Carlos Peres, Claudia Vaughn, and Adam Fishbach serve as executive producers.

In December 2023, ComicBook.com confirmed Argylle will be rated PG-13 for “strong violence and action and some strong language.” This marks a slight change for Vaugh as he hasn’t directed a PG-13 movie since 2011’s X-Men: First Class, as 2014’s Kingsman: The Secret Service, 2017’s Kingsman: The Golden Circle, and 2021’s The King’s Man were all rated R.

Argylle releases in United States theaters on February 2, 2024, from Univeral Pictures and Apple Original Films. It’s expected to hit Apple TV+ at a later date.
