Beverly Hills Cop 4 Photo Offers First Look at the Return of Eddie Murphy’s Axel Foley

Eddie Murphy’s Axel Foley is back in a first-look photo of Netflix’s Beverly Hills Cop 4.

Empire Magazine unveiled a first-look photo of Beverly Hills Cop 4, also known as Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley. The image sees Murphy’s Axel Foley dressed in a Detroit Lions jacket while he addresses a pair of cops advancing toward him. Surrounding Axel is a group of onlookers recording the moment on their phones.

“Anytime [Murphy] walks on set, you never know what you’re going to get. And it’s always pretty brilliant,” producer Jerry Bruckheimer said. “Every day he’s there throws you back to the ‘80s.”

Beverly Hills Cop 4 will be emotional

Bruckheimer further said that Beverly Hills Cop 4 won’t just rehash elements from the first three moments; rather, he hinted the upcoming movie will have an emotional element that will pull on viewers’ heartstrings.

“It’s about the emotion,” he said. “No matter how funny it is, how much great action it has, it’s all about the heartstrings.”

Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley is directed by Mark Molloy, who replaced Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah after they left the project to focus on the now-canceled Batgirl movie. With a script by Will Beall, Tom Gormican, and Kevin Etten, the movie will also see Judge Reinhold, Paul Reiser, John Ashton, and Bronson Pinchot reprise their respective roles from the previous three Beverly Hills Cop movies.

They’ll be joined by Taylour Paige as Axel’s estranged daughter, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Axel’s new partner, Kevin Bacon as an LAPD special-unit officer, and Mark Pellegrino. “[Gordon-Levitt] gets stuck with Axel and they are hysterical together,” Bruckheimer teased. “Joseph is such a great straight man for Eddie.”

Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley arrives on Netflix in 2024.
