The Marvels Director Began a New Movie During MCU Sequel’s Postproduction

The Marvels director Nia DaCosta apparently began working on another movie while the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe sequel was in postproduction.

Variety‘s new Marvel Studios report revealed that the director moved to London earlier in the year to begin preparation for Hedda — the Tessa Thompson-led film adaptation of Henrik Ibsen’s classic stage play. The outlet notes that a representative for the filmmaker declined to comment.

“If you’re directing a $250 million movie, it’s kind of weird for the director to leave with a few months to go,” said one of the outlet’s sources who is familiar with the production.

Who is starring in The Marvels?

Brie Larson, Iman Vellani, and Teyonah Parris headline The Marvels as Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel, and Monica Rambeau. Joining the trio are Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Zawe Ashton as Dar-Benn, and Park Seo-joon as Prince Yan.

“Carol Danvers AKA Captain Marvel has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken revenge on the Supreme Intelligence,” Marvel’s official synopsis states. “But unintended consequences see Carol shouldering the burden of a destabilized universe. When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with that of Jersey City super-fan Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel, and Carol’s estranged niece, now S.A.B.E.R. astronaut Captain Monica Rambeau.”
