Emily Blunt to Play Real-Life Detective Kate Warne in Black Adam Director’s New Movie

Emily Blunt is expected to play Kate Warne, the first woman detective in the United States for the Pinkerton National Detective Agency, in Jaume Collet-Serra’s new movie for Amazon Studios.

Per Deadline, Collet-Serra has officially signed on to direct Kate Warne for Amazon Studios. Blunt is producing and is expected to star in the movie; although, the deal has not yet been finalized due to the ongoing Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) strike that sees actors lobby for better pay, protection against artificial intelligence, and more.

Deadline first reported news about Blunt’s involvement with Kate Warne in August 2021, though Collet-Serra had yet not signed on to direct the movie at that time.

The first draft of the script was written by Gustin Nash, while Melissa Stack is also credited as a writer. Dwayne Johnson is also producing the project with Seven Bucks Productions alongside Hiram Garcia and Dany Garcia. Kristina Sorensen also serves as a producer for With a K Productions.

What else has Jaume Collet-Serra made?

Collet-Serra and Blunt previously collaborated on 2021’s Jungle Cruise, which also starred Johnson. Johnson and Collet-Serrae worked together again on DC Studios’ Black Adam, which was released in October 2022. Collet-Serra is also known for making 2005’s House of Wax remake, 2009’s Orphan, and 2016’s The Shallows. He’s additionally made a number of action movies starring Liam Neeson, including 2011’s Unknown, 2014’s Non-Stop, 2015’s Run All Night, and 2018’s The Commuter.

Blunt, meanwhile, starred alongside Cillian Murphy in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer earlier this year. Her next movie, Pain Hustlers, is directed by Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’s David Yates and also stars Chris Evans, Catherine O’Hara, and Andy García. Pain Hustlers hits Netflix on October 27, 2023,

Kate Warne does not yet have a release date from Amazon Studios.
