R.L. Stine Says Netflix Will ‘Probably’ Make More Fear Street Movies

Goosebumps author R.L. Stine says that Netflix will “probably” make more Fear Street movies.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Stine was reflecting on his career and the various projects he’s involved with when he revealed that more Fear Street movies are “probably” in the works from Netflix.

“I’ve done everything you can think of and it’s all so far beyond what I ever dreamed,” Stine said. “When we started out I said, ‘Let’s do two or three [Goosebumps books].’ I never dreamed that it would last this long. It’s all a big surprise to me. I’m excited to have a new TV show going [Disney+’s Goosebumps] and we’ll probably do more Fear Street movies too, and you know, that’s a thrill for me.”

What is R.L. Stine’s Fear Street?

Created by Stine in 1989, Fear Street is a series of horror fiction novels for teenagers set in the town of Shadyside. The original series lasted for 51 novels, though there have since been many other spin-offs and related series published since then.

The novels were adapted into three movies — Fear Street Part One: 1994, Fear Street Part Two: 1978, and Fear Street Part Three: 1666 — that were released on a weekly basis by Netflix in July 2021. All three movies were directed and co-written by Leigh Janiak and starred Kiana Madeira as Deena Johnson, Olivia Scott Welch as Sam Fraser, and Benjamin Flores Jr. as Josh Johnson.

With Fear Street Part Three: 1666 including a mid-credit scene that opened the franchise up for further installments, Janiak and other cast members have since discussed their desire to continue making Fear Street movies. In July 2022, Stine told Yahoo! Entertainment there were “rumors” about more Fear Street movies coming to Netflix, though further news about the potential project has largely been quiet up until now.

All three Fear Street movies are currently available to watch on Netflix. The Goosebumps series developed by Rob Letterman and Nicholas Stoller, meanwhile, is now streaming on Disney+ and Hulu.
