His Three Daughters: Netflix Nabs Global Rights to Elizabeth Olsen-Led Family Drama

According to Deadline, Netflix has successfully acquired the worldwide distribution rights to the upcoming family drama titled His Three Daughters, which hails from French Exit filmmaker Azazel Jacobs. The film is led by Emmy nominees Elizabeth Olsen, Carrie Coon, and Natasha Lyonne as they portray the titular siblings.

The film had its world premiere last month at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival. The acquisition deal reportedly cost the streamer at least $7 million, making it the third TIFF film that Netflix had nabbed following Anna Kendrick’s Woman of the Hour and Richard Linklater’s Hit Man.

What to expect in His Three Daughters?

“When their father’s health worsens, three estranged sisters come together to try to plan for the inevitable,” reads the synopsis. The eldest is high-strung Katie (Coon), who talks a hundred miles a minute and stresses about all the practical details. The middle sister, Rachel (Lyonne), is ready to check out after spending a year taking care of the man. And the youngest sibling, Christina (Olsen), seems always on the verge of tears, trying her best to clumsily keep the peace while they’re all stuck in their father’s small apartment.

His Three Daughters is written, directed, and edited by Jacobs. The main cast includes Coon as Katie, Olsen as Christina, Lyonne as Rachel, Jovan Adepo as Benji, Rudy Galvan as Angel, Jay O. Sanders as Vincent, and more. Following its world premiere at TIFF, the film has received early praises from critics, and is currently at a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 20 reviews.

Executive producers are Olsen, Coon, Lyonne, Danielle Renfrew Behrens, Maya Rudolph, Peter Friedland, Neil Shah and Sophia Lin. It is produced by Jacobs, Alex Orlovsky, Duncan Montgomery, Lia Buman, Marc Marrie, Mal Ward, Matt Aselton, Tim Headington, Jack Selby and Diaz Jacobs.
