Following the official casting of David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan, Superman: Legacy director James Gunn has revealed a new detail about DC Studios’ highly-anticipated superhero movie. Through his social media accounts, Gunn confirmed that the upcoming film wouldn’t include the Kryptonian hero’s childhood in Kansas since his origin story has been featured enough in previous movies and shows.
“I think we’ve seen his origin enough in film at this time!” Gunn said via his Bluesky account when a fan asked him to adapt All-Star Superman comics’ opening pages. Meanwhile, when a fan volunteered to play the young version of Corenswet’s Superman on Instagram, Gunn replied that there would be “no Young Clark” in the film.
In addition, the filmmaker also gave a new update regarding Superman: Legacy’s current pre-production status. He revealed that they have already started developing the score for the new Superman theme.
What is Superman: Legacy About?
“Superman: Legacy tells the story of Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas,” reads the movie’s official synopsis. “He is the embodiment of truth, justice, and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”
Superman: Legacy will be a part of DC Studios’ first slate for its rebooted DC Universe, which is being called Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. The film will be written and directed by Guardians of the Galaxy and The Suicide Squad filmmaker James Gunn, who was hired to become co-CEO of DC Studios in November 2022.
The film will be led by David Corenswet (Hollywood, The Politician) as Clark Kent/ Superman and Golden Globe winner Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) as Lois Lane. Casting for the next Lex Luthor is currently underway, with Alexander and Bill Skarsgård rumored to be on the shortlist of actors that could potentially play the DC villain.
Production is expected to begin in early 2024, just on track for its currently scheduled theatrical release on July 11, 2025.
