Michael Shannon Reveals Why He Turned Down Star Wars Role

Michael Shannon has revealed why he turned down the opportunity to appear in Star Wars.

The esteemed actor recently appeared in the new DC Extended Universe movie, The Flash, reprising his role from 2013’s Man of Steel as the villainous General Zod. He recently commented on his choice to avoid appearing in large franchise films like Star Wars.

“I’m always a bit wary about those giant movies,” Shannon told Empire. “Because they take a lot of time, and I don’t find them very stimulating to work on. I don’t ever want to get stuck in a franchise. I don’t find them interesting, and I don’t want to perpetuate them.”

“If I’m making something, I want there to be some kind of purpose to it,” Shannon adds. “I don’t want to make mindless entertainment. The world doesn’t need more mindless entertainment. We’re inundated with it.”

What is Michael Shannon’s next movie?

He will appear in The End, an upcoming apocalyptic musical film co-written and directed by Joshua Oppenheimer. He will star alongside Tilda Swinton, George MacKay, Moses Ingram, Bronagh Gallagher, Tim McInnerny, and Lennie James.
