Jason Momoa’s DCU Future Will Include ‘Many Years to Come’

Following Peter Safran and James Gunn’s promotion to co-CEOs of DC Studios, many wondered what Jason Momoa’s DCU future would be like. According to Safran, they envision the star working with them for years to come.

In a profile on Momoa from Men’s Health, Safran praised the actor, noting that he’s been working with Momoa for nearly a decade and that he’s one of the nicest people he’s ever met.

“What you see is what you get with Jason,” Safran said. “I have been working with him for six or seven years, and I keep waiting for the proverbial other shoe to drop. If there is an inner assh– in him, it has never come out. That, to me, is a surprise…albeit a very pleasant one.”

As for Momoa, the actor says he’s “extremely, extremely excited” about his what his future in the DCU holds, and teased that “there’s a lot of badass s— coming up.”

For months, rumors of Momoa potentially leaving the DC Universe, or even switching up roles and stepping down as Aquaman to play Lobo have been floating around. While Safran didn’t address those specifically, he did say that Momoa has a place in the DCU “for many years to come,” and if it’s not as Aquaman, it’ll be as someone else.

“I look forward to working with Jason for many years to come,” said Safran. “I would be happy for it to be in Arthur Curry’s world, but if/when another opportunity came up, I’d find another great character for him to create…there are few superhero castings that are more perfect than Momoa as Aquaman.”

Momoa will next appear in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, the sequel to 2018’s Aquaman, which is set to premiere on December 20, 2023.
