During a recent interview, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny star Harrison Ford gave his opinion on the de-aging technology used in the latest Indiana Jones movie.
Ford described the process to THR and said that though he was originally skeptical about the idea, the way it’s done in the new Indiana Jones movie convinced him.
“I never loved the idea until I saw how it was accomplished in this case — which is very different than the way it’s been done in other films I’ve seen,” Ford explained. “They’ve got every frame of film, either printed or unprinted, of me during 40 years of working with Lucasfilm on various stuff. I can act the scene and they sort through with AI every f—ing foot of film to find me in that same angle and light. It’s bizarre and it works and it is my face.”
Ford was then asked about if donning Indy’s hat for what seems to be the last time was nostalgic. The actor jokingly answered as though he was first learning about the role.
“I’m playing this archaeologist … who wears a brown fedora … and a leather jacket regardless of the weather … and carries a whip? OK, I’ll do it,” Ford joked. “Look, it was bizarre to start with, and it’s bizarre again. But that feeling goes away immediately because it’s so grounded in other things.”
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny will once again be led by Harrison Ford as he reprises one of his most iconic roles as the titular explorer. Joining him as the female lead is Emmy and Golden Globe winner Phoebe Waller-Bridge. The final installment will also feature the introduction of other franchise newcomers Antonio Banderas, Mads Mikkelsen, Thomas Kretschmann, Boyd Holbrook, and Shaunette Renée Wilson.
The long-awaited film is being directed by Oscar nominee James Mangold (Logan) from a new screenplay he is co-writing with Jez and John-Henry Butterworth, who collaborated on Ford v Ferrari. Mangold took over the director’s chair after Steven Spielberg exited his directorial duties for the film. Despite his exit, Spielberg will still remain part of the film’s production as a producer.
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny will also be produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall, and Simon Emanuel, with John Williams returning to score the film.
