Peter Safran Addresses Ezra Miller: ‘They’re Making Enormous Progress’

Last year, actor Ezra Miller was in the news seemingly all the time thanks to a variety of different controversies. While Miller hasn’t spoken publicly since their apology last year, co-CEO of DC Studios Peter Safran has recently given an update on how the actor is doing.

During a discussion surrounding the future of the DC Universe (via Deadline), Safran was asked about Miller’s recovery and status, to which Safran noted that they are currently “completely committed to their recovery,” and that when the time is right, they will figure out the best way to move forward. However, Safran did note that in their recent discussions with Miller, it did feel like they were making progress.

“Ezra is completely committed to their recovery,” said Safran. “We’re fully supportive of that journey that they’re on right now. When the time is right, when they feel they are ready to have the discussion, we’ll all figure out what the best way forward is, but right now, they are completely focused on their recovery. And in our conversations with them over the last couple of months, it feels like they’re making enormous progress.”

Miller’s controversies came to a head last August when the actor said that they would be seeking help for “complex mental health issues,” in an apology statement made concerning a litany of incidents that had popped up.

“Having recently gone through a time of intense crisis, I now understand that I am suffering complex mental health issues and have begun ongoing treatment,” Miller said via a statement to Variety. “I want to apologize to everyone that I have alarmed and upset with my past behavior. I am committed to doing the necessary work to get back to a healthy, safe, and productive stage in my life.”

That statement came following an incident where Miller was charged with felony burglary. The troubled actor had been making headlines all of 2022 for various arrests and controversies. In early 2022, Miller was arrested in April and booked on suspicion of second-degree assault, and a month prior to that in March, Miller was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct and harassment following an incident in Hawaii as well.

Currently, Miller is still set to appear and star in the upcoming The Flash movie, although it’s unclear exactly what their role in marketing the film will be. That film is set to premiere on June 16, 2023.
