Prey 2: Amber Midthunder Teases Possibility of Sequel

Following the success of the Predator prequel Prey, star Amber Midthunder has recently updated fans on the possibility of another entry in the series.

Speaking to Variety while on the red carpet for the BAFTA Tea Party, Midthunder was asked when a sequel might come. While she didn’t confirm anything or reveal a date, the actress did tease that one could be coming.

“I don’t have a date for you. This is not an announcement, but I’m not saying it’s not [happening]. We talk all the time about all kinds of things and [the Prey sequel] was probably one,” said Midthunder, before being asked if she wants to see a sequel happen. “Of course! I’m ready. I loved that experience, I loved that movie, and I would be happy to see where else we can take it.”

Prey, which was released on Hulu in 2022, acts as a prequel to the Predator franchise. It stars Midthunder as Naru, a young Comanche woman who goes toe-to-toe against a Predator. While the exact popularity of the film is unknown due to it being released on a streaming platform, the film was praised by both critics and audiences.

The cast was comprised almost entirely of Native and First Nation’s talent, including Amber Midthunder (The Ice Road), newcomer Dakota Beavers, Stormee Kipp (Sooyii), Michelle Thrush (The Journey Home), and Julian Black Antelope (Tribal). It also features Dane DiLiegro (American Horror Stories) as the Predator.

Prey was directed by Dan Trachtenberg from a screenplay written by Patrick Aison. It is produced by John Davis, Jhane Myers, and Marty Ewing, with Lawrence Gordon, Ben Rosenblatt, James E. Thomas, John C. Thomas, and Marc Toberoff serving as executive producers.

The prequel is available on Hulu entirely in Comanche as a language option, or with Comanche subtitles, which is the first time a feature-length movie on a direct-to-consumer streaming platform has been fully available in the Comanche language.
