Marvel’s Blade Finds Its New Director

Marvel Studios has chosen a new director for 2024’s Blade following previous director Bassam Tariq’s departure back in September.

According to Deadline, Yann Demange has signed on as the director for Blade, which is set to star Mahershala Ali as the titular Daywalker. Demange is best known for directing 2014’s thriller drama 71 and for his work on HBO’s Lovecraft Country.

Joining Demange on the film is Michael Starrbury, who will write a new script for the movie. Starrbury’s credits include Colin in Black & WhiteWhen They See Us, and Legends of Chamberlain Heights.

Blade is set to be part of Phase Five of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which will also contain Captain America: New World Order and Daredevil: Born Again.

The Blade trilogy from New Line Cinema helped shepherd comic books and superheroes to the big screen. Combined, the three films brought in over $400 million at the global box office. Blade was created by writer Marv Wolfman and artist Gene Colan as a supporting character in the comic book The Tomb of Dracula #10 in July 1973.
