According to the outlet’s sources, Lindelof’s untitled Star Wars movie will be a standalone feature set after the events of J.J. Abrams’ 2019 film The Rise of Skywalker. It was also revealed that some characters from the sequel trilogy may appear in the upcoming film.

The outlet’s sources also note that Lindelof led a secret writers’ room following this year’s Star Wars Celebration. For a two-week session in July, Lindelof was joined by Patrick Somerville (Leftovers, Station Eleven), Rayna McClendon (Obi-Wan Kenobi, Willow), Andy Greenwald (Briarpatch), Dave Filoni (Ahsoka), and more. In addition, Justin Britt-Gibson (The Counterpart) has been enlisted to write the project’s screenplay with Lindelof.

Oscar-winning filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy has also signed on to direct the untitled project. Obaid-Chinoy recently directed two episodes of Marvel Studios’ Disney+ series Ms. Marvel.

Further details about Lucasfilm’s newest Star Wars feature are still being kept under wraps. The studio currently has two untitled projects set for December 2025 and December 2027. It remains to be seen if Lindelof and Obaid-Chinoy’s film would take one of these release windows.
