Lofland’s role is unannounced as of now, but the actor will join a star-studded cast that’s set to include Joaquin Phoenix, Lady Gaga, Zazie Beetz, Catherine Keener, and Brendan Gleeson. Filming is expected to get underway later this year in December, so we’ll likely know more about who Lofland will be playing by then.

Known best for his role in the film Mud and his role in Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials and Maze Runner: The Death Cure, Lofland also starred in 2021’s 12 Mighty Orphans, as well as the 2021 horror film A House on the Bayou.

Joker: Folie à Deux will once again be directed by Todd Phillips. The film will feature the return of Joaquin Phoenix as he reprises his Oscar-winning role as the titular DC villain. He will be joined by Grammy-winning superstar Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn, making her the latest actress to portray the beloved DC character, following Margot Robbie and Kaley Cuoco.

Further details about its plot are still being kept under wraps, but the movie will reportedly feature some musical elements. Production is expected to begin this December. The Joker sequel is scheduled to make its debut in October 2024, which currently pits the sequel against no direct competition.

The 2019 film was both a critical and commercial success, with a worldwide gross of over $1 billion at the box office, making it the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time. It received recognition from multiple major award-giving bodies, including two Oscars and two Golden Globes, both for Best Actor and Best Original Sound.
