In a recent breakdown of what the future may hold for Warner Bros., Variety’s Adam B. Vary and Brent Lang note that as of now, only one DC movie has currently been greenlit following the merger of Warner Bros. and Discovery — Joker: Folie à Deux, Todd Phillips’ upcoming sequel to his Joker film starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga. However, just because only one film has been greenlit doesn’t mean more won’t.

The report goes on to mention that Matt Reeves, following his recent overall deal with Warner Bros. Discovery, is continuing to work on the sequel to the 2022 hit film The Batman, with the expectation that it will be greenlit when the time comes.

Elsewhere for the company, The Batman spin-off centered around Colin Farrell’s the Penguin character is also still being developed, as is the second season of James Gunn’s Peacemaker. The report mentions that the future of animated series like Harley Quinn and live-action shows like Titans and Doom Patrol are still unclear.

While new Warner Bros. Discovery head David Zaslav has stated in the past that he wishes to build a Marvel Cinematic Universe-style world for DC Films, it’s unclear just when that will come to fruition. With both the Joker sequel and The Batman taking place in their own respective universes, as well as Warner Bros. Discovery still figuring out how to handle The Flash, it’s unclear just what the future holds for the world of DC Films.
