U2 Scripted Series in Development at Netflix From J.J. Abrams

According to The Hollywood Reporter, J.J. Abrams, through his company Bad Robot Productions, is currently in the process of developing a biographical scripted series, centering around the award-winning rock band U2. The project is being produced by Warner Bros. Television for Netflix.

The untitled U2 scripted series will be written by acclaimed scribe Anthony McCarten, who is no stranger in musical biopics as he previously penned 2018’s Bohemian Rhapsody and is also currently writing the Whitney Houston biopic I Wanna Dance With Somebody. The outlet notes that it’s still in the early development phase and that U2 is also expected to be involved in the project.

Formed in 1976, the legendary four-member Irish rock band is consists of frontman Bono, lead guitarist Edge, bassist Adam Clayton, and drummer Larry Mullen Jr. They’re known for their hit songs such as “With or Without You,” “Pride (In the Name of Love),” and “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For.” They have also won 22 Grammy Awards out of 46 nominations including Album of the Year, Record of the Year, and Song of the Year.

The upcoming series is the latest addition to J.J. Abrams’ growing list of upcoming film and TV projects including the solo live-action Zatanna film, a Justice League Dark series, sci-fi fantasy drama series Demimonde, and the Your Name remake.
