Ben Affleck & Ana de Armas-led Deep Water to Get Streaming Release

After being pulled from Disney’s theatrical release window last week, Deadline is reporting that Deep Water, starring Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas, is headed to streaming.

The erotic thriller, which is directed by Adrian Lyne, is said to be moving to Hulu for a domestic release, with Amazon getting the rights to stream the film overseas. The movie was initially set to be released on January 14, 2022, but was abruptly pulled, marking the third time that the film had been delayed. Currently, no official release date for the streaming release has been given.

While it’s still unclear why the film was removed from a theatrical release, Deadline reported that the decision to pull the film from theaters was likely due to the lukewarm reception for most drama films at the box office as of now.

Deep Water is directed by Fatal Attraction filmmaker Adrian Lyne from a script co-written by Zack Helm (Stranger Than Fiction) and Sam Levinson (Euphoria). It stars Ben Affleck, Ana de Armas, Lil Rel Howery, Jacob Elordi, Finn Wittrock, Rachel Blanchard, Tracy Letts, Kristen Connolly, and Dash Mihok.

The film centers on Vic and Melinda Van Allen, who are an attractive young married couple whose mind games with each other take a twisted turn when people around them start turning up dead. The couple staves off divorce in a loveless marriage by allowing each to take lovers, but it becomes messy as Highsmith exposed the surface facade of American suburban life.

Garrett Basch and Steven Zaillian are executive producing the film along with Entertainment 360’s Guymon Casady, Anthony Katagas, and Ben Forkner. Arnon Milchon is serving as a producer.

Lyne last directed the 2002 drama Unfaithful, starring Diane Lane and Richard Gere, and made a reputation with steamy erotic films such as Indecent ProposalFatal Attraction, and 9 1/2 Weeks.
