Charlize Theron made her debut in the Fast & Furious franchise in 2017’s The Fate of the Furious, and after appearing in the recently released F9, her character may have future spin-off films.
Per Variety, Vin Diesel has confirmed that he has writers working on a spin-off film for Theron’s character, Cipher. In the films, Cipher is a cyberterrorist who has multiple connections to the criminal underworld and is determined to start a nuclear war. In The Fate of the Furious, she attempts to blackmail Dominic Toretto into betraying his crew, while she aids John Cena’s Jakob Toretto in F9.
It’s unclear exactly how a spin-off film on her character would work, but the Fast & Furious franchise has had no problem diving into the backgrounds of other characters, with the Hobbes and Shaw spin-off film being a perfect example. Theron most recently reprised her role in F9: The Fast Saga, which released last week in North America.
Despite being nine films into the main franchise, Fast & Furious is still going strong. F9 recently had the highest domestic box office weekend since 2019 with it bringing in $70 million. It has already grossed $405 million worldwide
