Emmy winner Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Watchmen) is set to star in and executive produce Warner Bros.’ original action project Emergency Contact with Beau Flynn producing via his FlynnPictureCo. with recurring producing partners Dwayne Johnson, Hiram Garcia, and Dany Garcia through the trio’s Seven Bucks Productions banner. Warner Bros. reportedly acquired the pitch from writing team Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani (via The Hollywood Reporter).
Details on the project are being kept under wraps but the film is described as being a “high-concept, high-octane action film set in the underground music scene of Austin, Texas.”
The project reunites members of the Black Adam crew, with Haines and Noshirvani having written the current script of the film starring Johnson in the titular role. The movie is also being produced by FlynnPictureCo. and Seven Bucks Productions.
The two production companies have more upcoming projects in the works together, including Disney’s Jungle Cruise, starring Johnson and Emily Blunt, as well as the action feature Red Notice, starring Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Gadot.
Besides his Emmy-winning role as Cal Abar/Dr. Manhattan on HBO’s Watchmen, Abdul-Mateen is also known for starring in The Trial of the Chicago 7, Aquaman, The Get Down, All Day and a Night, Us, and more. His upcoming projects include Nia DaCosta and Jordan Peele’s Candyman, The Matrix 4, Michael Bay’s Ambulance, Aquaman 2, and the origin story Furiosa starring alongside Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth.
