Shazam! Fury of the Gods Director Drops First Footage of Zachary Levi

As production continues on Shazam! Fury of the Gods in Atlanta, director David F. Sandberg took to Twitter to share a brief teaser for the upcoming DC sequel. The video offers the first footage of Zachary Levi’s return as Shazam in his new upgraded suit, which has been fully revealed in the first Fury of the Gods set photos that had surfaced online yesterday. The highly-anticipated film is set to make its debut on June 2, 2023. Its current release date puts the sequel against no direct competition as it’s only one scheduled for that day.

After defeating Sivana and the Seven Deadly Sins in the 2019 film which earned a worldwide gross of over $360 million, Shazam! Fury of the Gods will now see the Shazam family going up against much more dangerous threats, with the introductions of the daughters of Atlas, Hespera, and Kalypso, who are set to be portrayed by Oscar winner Helen Mirren and Kill Bill actress Lucy Liu. West Side Story star Rachel Zeigler has also been cast for an undisclosed key role.

Further details about the sequel’s plot are still being kept under wraps but, most of the first film’s main cast are expected to return including Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Jack Dylan Grazer, Adam Brody, Faith Herman, Meagan Good, Grace Fulton, Michelle Borth, Ian Chen, Ross Butler, Jovan Armand, D.J. Cotrona, Marta Milans, and Cooper Andrews.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods is once again being directed by David F. Sandberg (Annabelle: Creation) from a screenplay written by returning scribe Henry Gayden. It will be produced by Peter Safran.
