Mark Wahlberg-led Stu adds Oscar nominee Jacki Weaver to cast
A few weeks after the star finally committed to the project after developing it for years, the Mark Wahlberg-fronted faith-based drama Stu is already building an impressive cast as Oscar nominee Jacki Weaver (Perpetual Grace, LTD) has joined the roster, according to Deadline.
Details regarding the plot and characters are currently being kept under wraps, though sources previously reported that the story is one that Wahlberg finds very close to his heart and has been quietly developing for years, deciding to finally help move it forward after finding himself impressed with debuting writer/director Rosalind Ross.
Stu will be directed and written by Ross with Wahlberg and his manager Stephen Levinson set to produce alongside Jordan Foss, while Miky Lee and Colleen Camp are currently attached to the project as executive producers.
Weaver first emerged as a symbol of the Australian New Wave in the ’70s with roles in Stork, Alvin Purple and Petersen and would later find international acclaim for her roles in 2010’s Animal Kindgom, for which she earned her first Golden Globe and Oscar nominations, and David O. Russell’s adaptation of Silver Linings Playbook, for which she earned her second nomination. Other recent roles of hers include The Disaster Artist, Bird Box, Poms, Epix’ Perpetual Grace, LTD and 2020 sidequel of the American Grudge franchise.
Wahlberg recently wrapped filming for Sony’s long-in development live-action film adaptation of Uncharted and Lionsgate’s canine adventure film Arthur the King. He will next be seen in the biopic drama Joe Bell and the sci-fi action thriller Infinite, the former of which is currently awaiting a new release date after being pulled from the calendar while the latter is slated for a September 24 release from Paramount Pictures.
