Crater: Mckenna Grace to Star in Disney+’s New Coming-Of-Age Film

According to Deadline, Gifted star Mckenna Grace has officially signed on for one of the leading roles in Disney+’s new coming-of-age film titled Crater which hails from Stranger Things producer Shawn Levy. The project is being described as a story in a similar vein as 1986’s Stand By Me. Production is expected to begin this coming spring.

This marks Grace’s latest collaboration with Disney as she previously appeared in 2019’s Captain Marvel as one of the young versions of Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers. Grace will next be seen in Jason Reitman’s highly-anticipated supernatural comedy Ghostbusters: Afterlife and James Wan’s new horror film Malignant as well as the upcoming fourth season of The Handmaid’s Tale.

Crater will follow the story of a boy living on a moon colony. After the death of his father, a boy growing up on a lunar mining colony takes a trip to explore a mysterious crater, along with his four best friends, prior to being permanently relocated to another planet.

The film will be directed by Kyle Patrick Alvarez (Homecoming) from a script written by John Griffin. It will be produced by Shawn Levy and Dan Levine through their 21 Laps Entertainment banner.

The long-in-development project was originally set up at 20th Century Fox back in 2017 with Levy previously in talks to direct. However, due to the Disney-Fox acquisition, the film is now being overseen by Disney’s live-action team and is being developed for Disney+.
