Paul Feig offers update on Universal’s Dark Army project
It’s been nearly two years since ComingSoon.net chatted with the writer/director for the Universal Classic Monster crossover and nearly a year after his last discussion of the film, writer/director Paul Feig (Ghostbusters) has offered another new update on Dark Army.
While chatting with Collider for the recently-premiered second season of NBC’s Zooey’s Extraordinary Playlist, on which he is an executive producer, Feig expressed that he “loves that project so much” but noted that while the studio is interested in the project, they are concerned about one aspect of it.
“I think the studio thinks it’s a little too expensive, perhaps,” Feig said. “God as my witness, I’m gonna make that movie. I’m so obsessed with making that movie. One of the many reasons why I was drawn to doing this current Netflix [movie] is that there’s a lot of stuff I can work out in it, as far as effects and all that, that I can bring to Dark Army. I love it. It’s one of my favorite things I’ve ever written. It’s one of my favorite lead characters I’ve ever come up with. So, fingers crossed that we will make it someday.”
Feig’s recent writing and directing credits include A Simple Favor, Ghostbusters, Spy, The Heat, Bridesmaids,The Office and the most recent one the romance comedy Last Christmas, starring Emilia Clarke, Emma Thompson, and Henry Golding, and the TV movie Girls Code.
Paul Feig’s Dark Army is part of the growing list of Universal’s upcoming monster projects which includes: Dexter Fletcher’s film about Dracula henchman Renfield, Elizabeth Banks’ Invisible Woman, Matt Stawki’s Monster Mash and Ryan Gosling’s Wolf Man, in which he pitched the story for the film and will star while The Invisible Man writer/director Leigh Whannell is in talks for the director’s chair. It was also reported not long ago that Oscar-nominated producer Amy Pascal is interested in resurrecting the studio’s long-in development The Bride of Frankenstein reboot.
