Jason Sudeikis in Talks to Play Fletch

Jason Sudeikis is in talks to to play Fletch in Warner Bros. Pictures’ Fletch Won, says The Hollywood Reporter.

The Gregory McDonald novel series, first published in 1974 with “Fletch,” offers a humorous take on an LA-based investigative journalist. The first book spawned 11 sequels and served as the basis for a 1985 film that starred Chevy Chase in the lead. Chase would return to the character in 1989 for a sequel, Fletch Lives, not specifically based on any of the books.

Anonymous Content’s Steve Golin and Michael Sugar are producing along with David List. The producers of the film, which is described as “a gritty action comedy with heart and more tonally in line with McDonald’s novels than the Chase movies,” will now seek a director for the project.

Sudeikis’ credits include “Saturday Night Live,” Horrible Bosses, Hall Pass and We’re the Millers
