Nas Doc Time is Illmatic to Kick Off 2014 Tribeca Film Festival

As with last year’s premiere of the doc Mistaken for Strangers about the rock group The National, the 2014 Tribeca Film Festival will also be kicking off with the world premiere of a music-related doc, this time being Time is Illmatic about rapper Nas and the making of his debut album “Illmatic,” which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. The premiere will be followed by a special performance by Nas.

The 40-year-old Queens-born rapper, whose full name is Nasir bin Olu Dara Jones, has been nominated for 13 Grammy nominations and six MTV Video Music Awards since the critically-acclaimed debut of “Illmatic” in 1994. He’s released 12 albums since then, his last one being “Life is Good” in 2012. Nas also appeared in the recent Fox Searchlight holiday movie Black Nativity.
