Emily Blunt opens up about Edge of Tomorrow sequel delays
It has been over five years since Warner Bros. Pictures’ Edge of Tomorrow debuted in theaters back in 2014 which had earned positive reviews and grossed of $570 million at the worldwide box office. Since then, director Doug Liman has been developing the sequel. But due to its stars Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt’s super busy schedule, the project keeps getting delayed. The last update that we’ve heard was over a year ago when Warner Bros. had confirmed that Edge of Tomorrow 2 (titled Live Die Repeat and Repeat) is still moving forward with the addition of writer Matthew Robinson.
“I think there’s an idea, that he says is great,” Blunt said. “And he says this guy came in and cracked the case. How the stars will all align for us to be able to do it, I don’t know. I hope they do.”
The A Quiet Place: Part II actress also shared that despite the intense physical training that she had undergone for the first film, she absolute loved filming it and she is very willing to do it again for the potential sequel. “It broke my body in half, but I’d be willing to do it again to work with those boys who I love. So let’s see.”
Blunt also jokingly addressed the issue that she and Cruise might need to be digitally de-aged when the right time comes for the sequel to be made. “Tom and I are going to be 70 before we make another one,” she said. “It’s going to look a bit weird. We’ll have to do a real flashforward one.” The actress added with a laugh, “We’ll go full ‘Irishman,’ it’ll be the ‘Irishman’ version of ‘Edge of Tomorrow.’ Who knows? I hope, I’m going to talk to Doug about it [at the ‘A Quiet Place: Part II’ premiere].”
Doug Liman’s Edge of Tomorrow brought in just north of $100 million at the domestic box office, and cleared $370 million worldwide. The film also starred Bill Paxton, Noah Taylor, Kick Gurry, Dragomir Mrsic, Charlotte Riley, Jonas Armstrong, Franz Drameh, Masayoshi Haneda and Tony Way. The movie was based on the acclaimed novel All You Need is Kill by Hiroshi Sakurazaka.
