Paul Feig Developing Spin-Off Movie From The Heat

One of the summer’s biggest comedy hits was the Paul Feig-directed The Heat, starring Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy, which brought in $159 million domestically and another $70 million overseas. Of course when you do that kind of business, a sequel is almost inevitable, but now comes word from Deadline that Feig, 20th Century Fox and Chernin Entertainment are busy developing a spinoff movie for two of the side characters in the movie, played by Jamie Denbo and Jessica Chaffin.

They played Beth and Gina, two of the members of McCarthy’s character’s extended family who we meet during one of the movie’s funnier scenes where they grill Bullock’s character. Tricia McAlpin is already writing the script that Feig will at least produce, reuniting him with the stars of the Showtime talk show pilot Feig directed for “Ronna and Beverly,” which went on to have a short life on Sky TV in the UK.

Feig said about the two comic actresses: “Jamie and Jessica are two of the funniest people on this planet. They took small roles in The Heat and turned them into characters worthy of their own movie. I can’t wait to unleash Beth and Gina on the world. Run for your lives.”

Denbo is a writer with a number of scripts in various stages of development including Wedding Dance at Universal and the Natalie Portman vehicle Best Buds, while Chaffin has a recurring role on Fox’s “New Girl.”
