The film, set to be co-written and co-directed by American Splendor‘s Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini, follows a young couple who move to a farm near a small town in upstate New York, only to discover their new home is cursed by the murder of its former owners and while dark secrets are revealed about their past, the husband and wife’s marriage is revealed to have dark secrets of its own.

Seyfried is currently in talks to star as the wife, who is struggling to adjust the small-town life and is the first of the couple to believe her house is haunted.

The project is an adaptation of the Elizabeth Brudage horror novel All Things Cease to Appear, with the tone of the film being likened to that of the streaming service’s acclaimed series The Haunting of Hill House from Mike Flanagan (Doctor Sleep).
