Amanda Seyfried Joins Blumhouse’s You Should Have Left

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Amanda Seyfried (Mamma Mia!: Here We Go Again) will be joining Kevin Bacon (Cop CarBlack Mass) in Blumhouse’s You Should Have Left. Bacon will be playing a wealthy man in the film. Seyfried will play his wife, an actress with a secret.

First a novel, You Should Have Left was written by German author Daniel Kehlmann. The story is told from the point of view of a screenwriter who holes up in a remote house in the Alps with his wife and daughter so he can work on a sequel to his big hit. There are glimmers of Stephen King’s The Shining throughout the course of the book, in which we see the writer slowly begin to descend into madness when unexplained happenings start to chip away at his sanity. All of this is delivered in a diary-like format, forcing the reader to experience the first-person descent into madness throughout the course of the novel.

Bacon brought the novel to director David Koepp’s attention who then wrote the script and will be directing the film. The two previously worked together on Stir of Echoes. Production is set to start later this year.

Amanda Seyfried can be seen next in Universal’s Mamma Mia!: Here We Go Again, which opens July 20. Her recent works include First ReformedAnon, and Gringo. She currently is in production on The Art of Racing in the Rain with Milo Ventimiglia (Heroes, This is Us).
