Ever since his debut in comics, The Falcon has always been a partner to Captain America and not in the same way that Robin is Batman’s partner. With his feature film debut coming in next year’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier, star Anthony Mackie says we’ll be seeing a lot of their working relationship, and that he isn’t anyone’s sidekick.
“It’s interesting because a lot of people equate it to Batman and Robin, but the reality of it is it’s more of a working relationship, a respect relationship as opposed to a leader and follower,” Mackie said in an interview with MTV. “The three of us (Cap, Falcon, and Black Widow) work really well together and we support each other. All of us are really different in our abilities and powers, so when we come together we make an awesome tandem.”

Set to star Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan, Frank Grillo, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Scarlett Johansson, Toby Jones, Emily VanCamp, Hayley Atwell, Maximiliano Hernández, Robert Redford and Georges St-Pierre, the story picks up where Marvel’s The Avengers left off, as Steve Rogers struggles to embrace his role in the modern world and teams up with Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, to battle a powerful yet shadowy enemy in present-day Washington, D.C.
Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, Captain America: The Winter Soldier hits theaters on April 4, 2014.
