After the success of their comic adaptation 2 Guns, 20th Century Fox has decided to get in the Boom! Studios business and has signed a first look deal with the comic publisher and its imprint, Archaia Entertainment. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the deal gives Fox the opportunity to adapt any new Boom! Studios series into a film as well as some of their older titles. In addition, it also allows Boom! Studios to use the entire catalog of Fox films as the basis for new comic book series which Fox could then turn around and use as the blueprint for a remake of said film.
Boom!/Archaia has emerged as a publishing powerhouse devoted to original innovative storytelling and world class artists, said 20th Century Fox president Emma Watts. “Along with our recent deal with Epic, this relationship reinforces Fox’s commitment to attracting top tier talent with smart commercial content, as well as supporting a new breed of producer.”
Fox has already been hard at work developing other Boom! Studios comics for film and television even before this deal was finalized. Rio director Carlos Saldanha is in talks to direct an adaptation of the graphic novel “Rust,” while former “24” showrunner Howard Gordon is bringing the series Unthinkable to television.
Boom! Studios was founded in 2005 and in addition to many licensed comic books, has also published many original series such as Day Men, Kill Audio, Fanboys vs. Zombies, and Irredeembale.
