Frank Grillo and Morgan Freeman to star in action film Panama
The Highland Film Group has announced that Frank Grillo (Avengers: Endgame) and Academy Award winner Morgan Freeman (The Dark Knight trilogy) have signed on to star in the action film Panama.
Here’s the synopsis from the press release: Inspired by true events. In wild 1989 Panama, James Becker (Grillo), a rugged, decorated ex-marine, is sent undercover by his former commander Stark (Freeman) to execute a high-value deal with untrustworthy adversaries. While navigating through the chaos of the local civil war, Becker must fight assassins, court femmes fatales and negotiate with the enemy in order to complete his mission. With Stark always by his side, Becker perseveres against all odds in hopes of making it home alive. Principal photography is set to commence in November.
The film will be directed by Daniel Adams (The Lightkeepers) and written by Adams and William R. Barber. Michelle Chydzik Sowa and Michelle Reihel will produce, while Barber will serve as executive producer.
Grillo was recently seen in the summer blockbuster Avengers: Endgame, but has also appeared in The Purge series, the dramas Warrior, The Grey and Zero Dark Thirty. He will next appear in Screen Gems’ Black and Blue and the Lionsgate sequel The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard alongside Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L. Jackson and Salma Hayek, as well as Joe Carnahan’s action thriller Boss Level starring Mel Gibson and Naomi Watts.
Freeman is one of the greatest actors of our generation with roles in distinguished films such as Driving Miss Daisy, Glory, The Shawshank Redemption and The Dark Knight. He won an Oscar for Clint Eastwood’s Million Dollar Baby, and recently appeared in Angel Has Fallen.
