Hugh Jackman has revealed to Screen Daily that he has a role in District 9 and Elysium director Neill Blomkamp’s new sci-fi pic, Chappie. He’ll be joining Sharlto Copley, Ninja Visser and Yolandi Visser in the March 27, 2015 release.
“But I am doing a role in Neill’s new film, called ‘Chappie,’ which we shoot in Johannesburg. I’m there for a couple of weeks at the beginning of next year,” Jackman said. Bleeding Cool adds that they think they know who he is playing.
“From what little extra info I have, it would seem that Jackman is playing a CEO who ends up on the wrong side of the gangsters. He’s apparently quite a resourceful character, though.”
An extension of Blomkamp’s 2004 short film “Tetra Vaal” (watch below), Chappie tells the story of a robot imbued with artificial intelligence who is stolen by two local gangsters who want to use him for their own nefarious purposes. The film will star Sharlto Copley as the voice of Chappie, with Ninja and Yolandi Visser as the two gangsters.
