Peter Sarsgaard and Liev Schreiber Join Pawn Sacrifice

In development for some time, the true Bobby Fischer tale Pawn Sacrifice has scored two more cast members. The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Peter Sarsgaard and Liev Schreiber have joined the cast of the Ed Zwick film opposite Tobey Maguire.

Maguire (who is also producing) will be starring as Fischer, the world renowned chess prodigy. The film tells Fischer’s life story leading up to his historic world championship match against Boris Spassky.

Sargaard, who recently appeared in Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine, will play a priest and friend to Fischer while Schreiber, who plays the title role on Showtime’s “Ray Donovan,” will play Spassky.

Steven Knight (Dirty Pretty Things) provided the screenplay and will also produce alongside Gail Katz.
