American Son lands Netflix premiere

American Son Lands Netflix Premiere After TIFF Screening

The upcoming film American Son will premiere on Netflix starting November 1, following its premiere screening at the Toronto International Film Festival.

The Netflix film tells the story of Kendra Ellis-Connor, played by Emmy-nominee Kerry Washington (Scandal), the mother of a missing teenage boy, as she struggles to put the pieces together in a South Florida police station. Washington will be reprising her role from the play, as will Steven Pasquale (Rescue MeDivorce), Jeremy Jordan (SupergirlNewsies), and Eugene Lee (Gem of the OceanThunder Road).

American Son is based on the play of the same name by Christopher Demos-Brown. The film is directed by Tony Award-winner Kenny Leon (Fences), who also helmed the Broadway play. In addition to starring, Washington will executive produce with Pilar Savone under Washington’s banner Simpson Street. Jeffrey Richards and Rebecca Gold also serve as executive producers.

The play has already wrapped up its run on Broadway back in January, with production on the film beginning the following month. American Son marked the Broadway debut of Demos-Brown, telling a gripping tale about who we are as a nation, and how we deal with family relationships, love, loss, and identity.
