Luca Guadagnino in negotiations to direct Lord of the Flies adaptation
Oscar nominee Luca Guadagnino (Call Me by Your Name, Suspiria, We Are Who We Are) is in talks to direct the Lord of the Flies feature adaptation for Warner Bros., Variety has confirmed. The filmmaker and his producing partner, Marco Morabito, are also in negotiations to produce the movie based on William Golding’s novel.
It was previously reported that the movie would follow a group of stranded school girls, flipping the script on the original source material that follows a group of school boys who become stranded on a deserted island and descend into a savage social order. The outlet notes that plans to have a female-led version of the story has been scrapped and the project will actually follow a group of school boys.
Known Universe is in talks to executive produce the project. Peter Dodd will oversee for the studio. If deals close, Guadagnino and the production company plan to “develop a story that stays true to the text but with a contemporary, ultra-kinetic feel.”
Guadagnino is currently in pre-production on We Are Who We Are, the HBO miniseries drama starring Faith Alabi and Alice Braga. The director’s recent credits include Suspiria, Call Me by Your Name, A Bigger Splash, I Am Love, and the upcoming Blood on the Tracks.
