Long Shot’s June Diane Raphael joins musical comedy Covers
A few days after adding to its all-star roster by signing on Ice Cube (Fist Fight), the upcoming Focus Features music comedy Covers has continued expanding its cast with the addition of Long Shot star June Diane Raphael, according to Deadline.
The ensemble cast is being led by Dakota Johnson (Fifty Shades Freed) and Tracee Ellis Ross (Black-ish) and also stars Kelvin Harrison Jr. (It Comes at Night) and Zoë Chao (Where’d You Go, Bernadette).
Nisha Ganatra, who made a huge impression with the comedy Late Night at the Sundance Film Festival, is directing the pic from a screenplay by Flora Greeson. Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner will serve as producers, while executive producer duties will be held by Alexandra Loewy.
Raphael, who made a name for herself on the small screen with roles in the hit comedy series NTSF: SD: SUV::, New Girl and Grace and Frankie and has recently landed supporting roles in the acclaimed biopic comedy The Disaster Artist, teen comedy Blockers (purchase it here) and romantic comedy Long Shot.
Cube is also in negotiations to star in The Killer’s Game alongside Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy). The film is an adaptation of the Jay Bonansinga novel of the same name about a hitman (played by Bautista) with a terminal disease who puts a bounty on his head as a means of ending his life. Once he finds out he was misdiagnosed, however, the hitman must protect himself and the woman he loves from ruthless assassins, led by Ice Cube.
DJ Caruso is set to direct the film from a script by Simon Kinberg and Rand Ravich.
Cube recently starred in the 2017 films Fist Fight and xXx: Return of Xander Cage. He currently has three other films in production, including Last Friday, Ride Along 3 and Humbug.
