Dave Bautista In Talks to Star in Action-Thriller Killer’s Game

Collider reports that Guardian of the Galaxy star Dave Bautista is currently attached to star in STXfilm’s upcoming action thriller Killer’s Game. The film adaptation has been long in development for over two decades with action star Jason Statham (Hobbs & Shaw) previously in talks for the lead role.

Killer’s Game follows the story of Joe Flood, a hitman who prides himself on killing only those who deserve to die and is told by his doctor that he has merely a few months to live. Flood puts out an open contract on himself to the assassins of the world but soon finds out that the lab made a mistake and he’s in perfect health. Now he must fend off all of his former associates trying to kill him.

Based on Jay Bonansinga’s novel of the same, the film will be directed by D.J. Caruso (Disturbia, Eagle EyeXXX: The Return of Xander Cage). Steve Richards of Endurance Media and Andrew Lazar of Mad Chance will serve as the producers for the film.

The feature film version of Killer’s Game has been around to various studios in Hollywood, including Paramount and Warner Bros., with the likes of Michael Keaton and Wesley Snipes signing on at one point or another. Directors Alex Proyas (The Crow), John Woo (Hard Boiled, The Killer), Pitof (Catwoman), Rupert Wainwright (The Fog remake), Renny Harlin (Die Hard 2), Simon Crane (second unit director of Rogue One, Edge of Tomorrow) and Simon Kinberg (X-Men: Days of Future Past) have all been attached to the project previously before it fell through.

Bautista is best known for his role as Drax the Destroyer in the Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy starring alongside Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel. The actor’s recent film credits include Avengers: Infinity War, Hotel Artemis, Final Score, Blade Runner 2049, and Master Z: IP Man Legacy. He will next be seen upcoming projects will include the action comedy Stuber, My Spy, Escape Plan 3: Devil’s Station, and the Dune remake which is consists of a star-studded cast that includes Timothee Chalamet, Oscar Isaac, Rebecca Ferguson, Jason Momoa and Josh Brolin.
