Harriet Photos Reveal First Look at Cynthia Erivo as Harriet Tubman

Focus Features has released new photos from their upcoming Harriet Tubman biopic, Harriet, starring Cynthia Erivo in the title role. You can check out the photos now in the gallery below!

Based on the story of iconic freedom fighter Harriet Tubman, Harriet follows Tubman on her escape from slavery and subsequent missions to free dozens of slaves through the Underground Railroad in the face of growing pre-Civil War adversity.

The film, which will be directed by Kasi Lemmons (Eve’s Bayou) and co-written by Lemmons and Gregory Allen Howard (Remember the Titans), will also feature an ensemble cast that includes Leslie Odom Jr. (Hamilton, Murder on the Orient Express), Joe Alwyn (Boy Erased, The Favourite, Mary Queen of Scots), Janelle Monáe (Hidden Figures), Grammy Award-winner Jennifer Nettles and Clarke Peters (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri). Vanessa Bell Calloway (Shameless), who will play Tubman’s mother; Zackary Momoh (Seven Seconds), who will play Tubman’s husband; and Deborah Ayorinde (True Detective) and Vondie Curtis-Hall (Marvel’s Daredevil) also star.

Harriet was produced by Debra Martin Chase, Daniela Taplin Lundberg, and Gregory Allen Howard. The film will be released in theaters in 2019.
